Our orthodontists and team are committed to making your experience at The Brace Place as convenient and comfortable as possible. We want you to feel prepared when you visit us for orthodontic treatment, and encourage you to reach out to us at any time with your questions and concerns. We also invite you to review this page so you know what to expect when you arrive at our office.

Your Initial Consultation

doc-patient
Your consultation appointment is designed to allow Dr. Kurt Bray or Dr. Robert Olsen to assess your current oral health and the status of your teeth and jaws from an orthodontic perspective, as well as discuss your treatment options. If you or your child are ready to start treatment we will also review the treatment cost and payment options with you, including determining what may or may not be covered by your dental insurance.

We recommend that children visit the orthodontist for the first time by age 7. At this age, children have enough permanent teeth that our orthodontists can determine if orthodontic treatment is needed and when it should begin. Early orthodontic screenings and treatment allow us to monitor the development of your child’s teeth and smile, and can help prevent the need for more complex and expensive treatments in the future.

Examination & Diagnostic Records

Our orthodontists and team will take measurements, photographs and X-rays of your teeth in order to plan your treatment. These records will be used to discuss your treatment options in greater detail so that you can make a fully informed decision regarding your or your child’s care.

Starting Your Treatment

If you are receiving braces, our orthodontists will polish and dry your teeth and the brackets will be bonded into place on the tooth surfaces. You should start feeling some pressure on your teeth after a few hours, and may experience some discomfort for a few days. We recommend taking mild painkillers such as Tylenol or ibuprofen to manage any discomfort. Our team will provide you with instructions on the best ways to take care of your braces and your oral health throughout your treatment.

If you are receiving clear aligners, you will already have had digital impressions taken and any preparatory steps will have been completed. Simply begin wearing your aligners as directed by our orthodontists. As with braces, you may feel some pressure and experience a small amount of discomfort.

Adjustment Appointments

You will meet with our orthodontists regularly throughout your treatment to ensure your smile is progressing as plans. During these visits, we will make any adjustments to your braces that are needed or provide you with the next set of aligners in your treatment plan.

Finishing Your Treatment

This will be a longer visit involving our orthodontists removing your braces and cleaning off the adhesive that held them in place. We will take scans for a digital impression from which your retainer will be created. In most cases you will be able to pick up your retainers later that same day.

Retainer Visits

Your teeth will naturally want to shift back to where they were before you received orthodontic treatment. This makes wearing your retainers incredibly important. Our team will provide you with instructions on wearing and caring for your retainers when you receive them. You will occasionally visit our office to make sure that your retainers are working for you and that your smile has remained properly aligned. If you have been wearing your retainers as directed by our orthodontists these appointments will be short and simple.
